The wild coast
on the island of Oléron

A wild land
The west coast of the Ile d’Oléron
Your campsite on the Ile d’Oléron Le Montet d’Oléron*** is located on the Atlantic coast in Charente-Maritime, where the beauty of the coastline gives it its name of “wild coast”.
The wild coast, with its 60 km-long dune belt, is located on the western part of the island. It stretches from the Pointe de Chassiron to the Pointe de Gatseau. It is made up of long sandy lagoons and pine forests, notably the magnificent Saint-Trojan forest, with pine trees reaching heights of over 30 meters.
Strongly exposed to the winds and waves of the Atlantic Ocean, there are often high swells, making the coast ideal for board sports.
Heading north from the village of Vert-Bois, the beaches begin with their characteristic rocky plains (the Jard, Rouchoux and Perroche rocks). After La Cotinière, the beaches become more intimate, framed by small cliffs. Further on, La baie des pilotes, a small salt marsh cove, offers a viewpoint between the Pointe de Chaucre and Pointe des Trois-Pierres.
